NEW DELHI: Indian boxers opened their campaign in style as Amandeep Singh (49kg) and Manoj Kumar (64kg) advanced to the pre-quarterfinals, following convincing victories in their opening bouts on Tuesday.
Singh was meeting Peter Warui of Kenya for the second time in a span of six months. The South Asian gold medalist had met his nemesis at the final of the Commonwealth Boxing Championships in New Delhi.

"Since I had played him before, I knew his game. He was down in the first round and tried to attack too much. I am quick on my feet and that helped," said Amandeep.
Amandeep had employed the same strategy in March then as he did on Tuesday of playing from long range to disturb Warui's rhythm. GS Sandhu, the national coach, had devised a plan to attack from the outset since Warui can be dangerous if he takes the lead. With two powerful lefts in the first round, Amandeep settled down and went on to win 6-2.
